I replaced the original with a Jardine Rumbler over a year ago. I forgot to use the gasket from the stock muffler and I just used hi-temp silicone. I never bothered to re-do it, since I've had no problems at all. I noticed no discernible difference in the frequency of backfires. I get an occasional very small backfire when I close the throttle to shift gears, but that's about it. I think I've had no more than a handful of real backfires in over 4,000 miles. When I shut the bike off, I still get the little "fart," but it's only slightly louder than the stock muffler was. I can eliminate the "fart" completely most of the time if I let the bike idle for about 15-20 seconds before shutting it off. The rest of the bike is stock.....white spacer is still in there. Good luck.:o)
